Under Your Spell

Under Your Spell is a contemporary romantic comedy novel published in 2024 by Laura Wood. It marks the author's first venture into adult romance fiction after finding success with young adult literature. 

The story follows Clementine "Clemmie" Monroe, a medieval literature professor whose life is falling apart. In a single, disastrous stretch of time, Clemmie is dumped by her cheating boyfriend of four years (who maliciously steals her cat), loses her academic job due to budget cuts, and faces the impending loss of her flat. 

To cheer her up, Clemmie's tight-knit sisters get her drunk and convince her to perform a childhood ritual called the "Breakup Spell". They curse her ex-boyfriend and make three specific wishes for Clemmie: 
A fantastic, no-strings-attached one-night stand.

Though they think nothing of the ritual, unusual things begin to happen immediately. While wearing a sexy dress to a family friend's funeral, Clemmie accidentally disrupts the service but strikes up a conversation with an incredibly handsome stranger named Edward. The two share an unforgettable, passionate one-night stand, but Clemmie slips out early the next morning, leaving only a brief note. 

Desperate for income, Clemmie takes an unusual temporary job: "babysitting" a celebrity client in a remote cottage. She is tasked with acting as a housekeeper and handler to ensure the star stays focused and finishes his highly anticipated new album. 

Upon arriving, Clemmie is shocked to discover that the global rockstar—known publicly as Theo Eliott—is actually "Edward," her one-night stand.
